Japanese Cuisine Cook

The Japanese Cuisine Cook is responsible for preparing consistent, high-quality Japanese dishes while following Rovers’ recipes, food-safety standards, portion controls, and presentation guidelines. The ideal candidate is organized, dependable, and comfortable working in a fast-paced kitchen environment.

THE ROLE

What you will do

Prepare Japanese rice meals, noodles, fried dishes, sauces, side dishes, and other menu items.
Follow approved recipes, portion sizes, plating guides, and presentation standards.
Wash, cut, marinate, bread, cook, and properly store ingredients.
Operate kitchen tools and equipment safely.
Check ingredient quality, freshness, labels, and storage conditions.
Maintain a clean, sanitary, and organized workstation.
Follow food-safety, hygiene, temperature-control, and waste-management procedures.
Monitor stock levels and report low inventory, spoilage, or unusual wastage.
Complete opening, closing, preparation, and cleaning duties.
Coordinate with the service and kitchen teams to complete orders accurately and efficiently
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Qualifications

  • At least a high school graduate or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a kitchen, restaurant, café, or food-service environment is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of food preparation, sanitation, and safe equipment handling.
  • Able to follow recipes, measurements, and instructions accurately.
  • Reliable, punctual, organized, and attentive to detail.
  • Able to work efficiently without compromising quality or cleanliness.
  • Willing to learn Japanese cooking techniques and company standards.
  • Comfortable receiving feedback and working as part of a team.
  • Willing to work flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays.
  • Physically able to stand for extended periods and perform regular kitchen duties.
AN ADVANTAGE

Nice to have

  • Experience preparing Japanese or Japanese-inspired cuisine.
  • Familiarity with donburi, katsu, curry, noodles, tempura, rice preparation, and Japanese sauces.
  • Experience with frying, grilling, sautéing, breading, and batch preparation.
  • Culinary, food-safety, or sanitation training.
  • Experience with portion control, inventory monitoring, and waste reduction.
  • Knowledge of Japanese ingredients, seasonings, and food presentation.
